As vaping has become increasingly popular over more recent years, it’s important to familiarise ourselves with the impact that it has on our homes and wallets. This blog will cover everything from whether or not vaping stains the inside of your home and if you could save yourself some money by swapping cigarettes for a vape!
We hope that this blog provides some insight and busts some of the myths out there about vaping.
So, let’s start off by exploring whether or not vaping causes the same damage to the inside of your walls as cigarette smoking does…
Does vaping stain the walls inside of my home?
It’s hard to escape the fact that cigarette smoke has a detrimental impact on the inside of the home. But does vaping have a better effect? Or are you being equally as damaging without realising?
Staining from cigarettes is primarily caused by something which is referred to as ‘nicotine staining’. Nicotine doesn’t just stain the inside of your home, but it can also stain the fingernails and teeth too. Cigarette smoke lingers and in turn, sticks to the walls forming a layer of scum.
Okay, so is vaping any different?
The good news that the answer is yes, it is different. Although some vapour does contain nicotine, the nicotine is vaporised as opposed to combusted and in turn dissipates. It, therefore, does not leave the same thick layers of dirt that cigarette smoke leaves. Firstly, the nicotine involved in vaping is significantly smaller than it is in cigarette smoking, meaning that more nicotine is absorbed than is emitted. Over a long period of profound vaping, there is a possibility that you may see some discolouration to your walls, but it will not create the same damaging impact as smoking.
Does vaping set off the fire alarms?
If you’re vaping in the comfort of your home, the last thing that you want to happen is for the fire alarm to be triggered. With much speculation surrounding vaping and fire alarms, let’s set the record straight.
So, does vaping set off the fire alarm?
Yes and no. In theory, vaping shouldn’t cause the fire alarm to go off as it’s vapour which is produced (as opposed to smoke). However, there are a multitude of factors to consider; the type of fire alarm, the distance of the vapour from the fire alarm and many more. Of course, it seems illogical when a fire alarm’s job is to detect smoke, however, it’s not as clear cut as that. Vaping can cause fire alarms to go off due to the detection of a change in particle density as they are extremely sensitive to airborne particles, and if you blow your vapour directly into the fire alarm it may be triggered. There has been research to suggest that vaping is more likely to stick dust to surfaces over a long period of time, but you can easily wipe away dust – scum, not so easily.
Is vaping cheaper than smoking?
Smoking is an expensive hobby and can often cost a small fortune. But what’s the truth behind the myths and speculation? Is vaping actually cheaper than buying packets of cigarettes?
Following Phillip Hammond’s added tax onto cigarette packets in 2018’s budget, the average price for a packet of cigarettes is just over £10. Unlike smoking, vaping offers a vast range of options from vape juices to different devices meaning you once you have certain items in your kit, you are set. Admittedly, it may seem more expensive in the short term, but you’ll be able to reap the benefits longer term without having to perpetually payout for packets of cigarettes.
We hope that this blog has reassured you and cleared up some of the misconceptions about vaping inside of the home. The reality is that vaping will be more cost-effective in the long run and won’t cause as much damage inside of your home.
