You may be thinking of quitting smoking, and this may be a resolution that you have made but feel unsure about how to go about it and what to do. But we are here to help!

In this article, we explore how vaping can help you quit, as well as give our advice on how to prepare to quit smoking and what we can offer at LiQuid to help you quit smoking and start vaping in 2024.

Quitting Smoking for 2024

According to a Forbes survey, quitting smoking is one of the top new year’s resolutions that people set to achieve.

Quitting smoking is a hard task, there’s no doubt about it but it’s not an impossible one providing you have the correct tools and support to help make the process easier.

You may have been smoking for a long time, and to make a change like quitting is a big leap but you must remember your reasons why you’re doing it.

You may be seeking to quit smoking to improve your health, because as it’s commonly been proven, smoking seriously damages your health and puts you at huge risk of contracting deadly diseases such as cancer or heart/lung disease.

You may be wanting to quit for financial reasons, because the cost of smoking is at the highest it’s ever been and recently, the price of hand rolling tobacco was increased yet again which continues the year-on-year increases that have been happening.

Whatever your reason is, you’re making one of the best decisions by quitting smoking. But you may be unsure on what to do next. Here are some of the things you could do to get the right tools as well as support that you’ll need to make the process of quitting that little bit easier.

Seek Advice from Healthcare Professionals

The first thing you should do is speak to your GP about your desire to quit smoking. This is the first step on the gateway for getting professional help and guidance from trained healthcare professionals.

They could refer you to your local Stop Smoking service which is a great outlet for help and advice on quitting smoking.

Stop Smoking services are NHS funded services and operated by specially trained professionals who can offer support and advice on your quitting journey. The work that they carry out is second to none and they’re an invaluable asset to those seeking help to quit smoking.

You can check out the website to get an overview of what they do, as well as look at some of the advice they offer on there.

Your GP may offer to prescribe you a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to help you quit too. If you didn’t already know what NRT is, we will explain.

NRT are alternative forms for nicotine that can be used to help quit smoking and ensures that you will still get nicotine being delivered into your system, but at much more concentrated doses compared to what you previously got from smoking tobacco.

It’s recommended you always use a form of NRT during the quitting process, because of nicotine being such an addictive chemical, a dependency and addiction can be easily formed, and it’s not recommended to go the cold turkey approach and stopping nicotine completely.

The forms of NRT which can be prescribed by a GP are nicotine patches, nicotine gums, nicotine sprays and nicotine lozenges. All of which contain a small amount of nicotine to keep those cravings at bay.

However, there’s an alternative form for nicotine replacement therapy which is proving to be more effective than the more traditional NRT options which we now listed. But this isn’t something that can be prescribed by GPs; however, it is being recommended by them as well as stop smoking services for smoking cessation. But what could it be?

How Vaping Can Help You Quit Smoking

Vaping is proving to be a very successful way to quit smoking according to statistics as e-cigarettes can give the closest replicant of smoking a cigarette as well as similar nicotine absorption times and it does all of this without delivering an abundance of toxic chemicals into the system like what smoking does.

A report commissioned by Public Health England in 2021 took a look at vaping for smoking cessation and it produced some interesting statistics which we will share with you.

Using a vaping product was the most popular aid in quitting smoking in 2020 with 27.2% of people using them compared to the 15.5% who used over the counter NRT options like the aforementioned.

The report also says that in 2017, 50,000 smokers stopped smoking using a vaping product who would have carried on smoking otherwise.

And recent statistics show that the number of adult vapers in England is the highest it’s ever been which contributes to the fact that the number of adult smokers in England hit the lowest number it’s ever been.

The vaping market is at the most fruitful it’s ever been with so many great vaping devices to use to help quit smoking as well as amazing vape juice in varying nicotine strengths and flavours. We will go through some options for both vape juice and vape devices which you can use to make quitting smoking that little bit easier.

What Vape Juice Can Help You Quit Smoking

There are so many different vape juice flavours available today that you’re almost spoilt for choice. It certainly has evolved from the early days when there were only a few flavours and nicotine strengths to choose from.

Now there are countless amounts of great tasting e liquid, in different nicotine strengths made using different types of nicotine to really cater to everyone’s individual needs who may be looking to move away from smoking and start vaping.

When it comes to nicotine used in vape juice, there’s the traditional freebase nicotine which is used and in recent time, nicotine salts have seen a surge in popularity as these gives the closest replicant to the nicotine absorption you’d be getting from smoking tobacco products.

There are two different types of vape juices, 50/50 and High VG. 50/50 means it’s an equal share of Vegetable Glycerine (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG) and high VG means it’s got a 70% VG to 30% PG ratio, and this is more suited for sub-ohm devices used by more experienced vapers.

By using 50/50 vape juice, the PG used in it will aid in replicating the throat hit that you’d get from smoking cigarettes alongside the nicotine also playing a part.

This vape juice will give a mouth to lung (MTL) vaping experience which is the same as you’d get from smoking so it’s understandable why ex-smokers would want this replicated.

Freebase Nicotine Vape Juice

This is the vape juice which has been around since the very start and has helped countless amounts of people transition away from smoking and start vaping without a second thought of going back.

The three nicotine strengths which 50/50 freebase vape juice comes in normally is 6mg, 12mg or 18mg. These strengths correlate to how many cigarettes you’d previously smoked and what tolerance you have for nicotine.

6mg – Suitable if you’re light smoker of around 10 cigarettes a day, this will give a smooth and satisfying nicotine hit with a subtle throat hit.

12mg – Mid range strength that would suit you if you smoked around 15 cigarettes a day. Stronger throat hit on the inhale.

18mg – The highest freebase nicotine strength available and only recommended if you were a heavy smoker of 20 and upwards cigarettes a day. This will give a very strong throat hit and big nicotine kick as well.

If you’re looking for something with a faster absorption rate and a bit more flavour to your vape juice, then perhaps nicotine salts could be the one for you as we explain…

Nicotine Salts

Nicotine salt vape juice is made differently to standard freebase nicotine vape juice in the way that a weak acid is mixed in with the nicotine to neutralise the pH levels of the nicotine to make it smoother on the throat, meaning a higher strength can be vaped without it being too harsh.

It also helps the absorption rate of the nicotine into the system speed up, giving it an absorption rate similar to that of tobacco. And finally, it can also aid in making the flavour of your vape juice richer and more enjoyable. It’s clear to see why these are becoming so popular!

Nicotine salts are commonly sold in two different strengths, 10mg and 20mg but you can also get 5mg nicotine salts in some of the ranges we offer here at LiQuid.

The nicotine hit you get from nicotine salts will be a little more punchy than standard freebase, but it will be incredibly smooth and flavoursome. As mentioned, using 18mg freebase can be really harsh on the throat if you’re not used to that much nicotine.

Whereas even with a 20mg nicotine salt vape juice, you can vape this and it will not be anywhere near as harsh as what an 18mg freebase could potentially be.

We recommend nicotine salts if you’re looking to quit smoking and start vaping as the absorption rate of the nicotine is close to what it is from smoking tobacco, so you’ll get the same effect and be able to keep those cravings at bay.

You’re obviously going to need a vape device to use your vape juice in and we have some great devices we can recommend to you as we continue on.

What Vape Devices Can Help You Quit Smoking

We previously mentioned about MTL vaping, as this is the style of vaping that will replicate smoking as closely as possible. To get this experience, you’ll need to use a device capable of MTL vaping and using the correct coil within the device.

It can seem a daunting task picking a vape device for your first one, ensuring that you’ve picked the right one which is why we wanted to give our recommendations on some of the best options we have available to get your started on your journey.

Refillable pod vapes are very popular and one of the most user-friendly devices on the market today. They use pods which already have coils preinstalled, so you just have to dispose of the pod and replace it with a new one instead of getting your hands messy with vape juice and changing coils.

The Caliburn G2 is a great first vape for anyone starting out. A refillable pod device that basically does all the work, so you don’t have to get your head around wattage settings or anything.

The smart chip inside will detect the resistance of your coil inside your pod and set the wattage automatically, meaning you just fill up your pod, clip it in place and you’re away!

You also get a free 10ml bottle of vape juice when your purchase the Caliburn G2 from us, so this will get you started on your vaping journey!

Another great device that we would recommend would be the Voopoo Argus Pod Vape.

This is small and discreet in size but certainly has some decent power packed into every vape! Again, this uses refillable pods with coils preinstalled. It has sliding adjustable airflow also, meaning you can pick what airflow suits you best.

Having an open airflow will give a more airy type vape with minimal throat hit, where if you restricted it slightly, you’ll get less vapour production and a more punchy throat hit.

These are just two of the devices we have on offer here, and we have plenty more available to choose from. Check out our Vape Kits section to shop around and see what catches your eye!
