The ELFX Mega is one of the very latest vape kits to launch from former disposable vaping giants Elf Bar. It is a refillable pod kit with a boxy, "big-puff" disposable-inspired design, housing a massive 2800mAh battery. The kit features QUAC dual-mesh coils and two distinct firing modes without a complex menu, placing it firmly in the 'intermediate' level vape kit category.
The ELFX Mega has plenty to offer vapers for its affordable £19.99 price point, especially those who prefer nic salt e-liquids. Like any vape kit, however, certain design and functionality aspects may not suit everyone's taste.
In this review, we will explore the features and functionality of the ELFX Mega and explore the most notable pros and cons it has to offer, so you can decide if it's worth your investment.
About Elf Bar & The ELFX Mega:
Elf Bar quickly made their mark on the UK vaping industry during the disposable vape boom circa 2023. They were incredibly popular, at one point outselling any other disposable vape kit brand. Their reputation was damaged, however, by controversy surrounding non-compliant devices and products that appeared to target under-18s.
Despite these challenges, the brand has persisted and remains a popular option for many vapers. Their once exclusively disposable devices have been replaced with refillable pod kits, with the ELFX Pro representing their most advanced offering to date.
The ELFX Pro pleasantly surprised all of us here at LiQuid with its performance, giving us high hopes for the ELFX Mega. While much simpler in design and functionality than the Pro, the Mega bridges the experience gap between plug-and-play pod kits like the ELFX Mini and more customisable advanced models.
This means it supports a different niche to its advanced cousin, justifying its more stripped-back approach.

What's In The Box?
When you buy the ELFX Mega vape kit, you should get:

Elf Bar have kept to the bare minimum when packaging the ELFX Mega. In the starter kit you get the device battery, one pod to get you started, and a standard manual alongside a little card explaining the coil types available.
If you were hoping to get a charge cable you are out of luck, but the device will charge just fine using any USB-C cable and an adaptive charge-supported plug.
How Does It Look & Feel?
If the ELFX Mega's box art wasn't obvious enough, the first thing you will notice about this kit is it's broad, boxy design. This is largely to house the massive 2800mAh battery.
If you were a disposable vaper before they were banned in the UK, you might enjoy this as it is very reminiscent of the controversial "big-puff" devices. Others however might find that it's imposing size is somewhat impractical compared to other, sleeker pod kits.
The housing itself comes in a range of colours with matte and satin finishes, and rounded edges for comfort. The front-mounted airflow slider is simple but smooth and precise to use. The screen and power button found on the side of the device sit slightly proud of the metal housing but have smooth edges.
The button itself, however, has a slight rattle to it and feels a little loose - this isn't a huge negative, nor does it affect functionality, but it does reflect a running theme of slightly sub-par build quality we have noticed accross Elf Bar's other vape kits. This matches their cheaper price-points however so it is very much a case of "you get what you pay for".
Overall, the ELFX Mega feels premium enough to justify it's £19.99 price tag, but doesn't try very hard to go beyond that, offering a relatively "cheap and cheerful" approach to intermediate level vaping.
Is It Easy To Use?
In a word, yes. Say what you will about it's boxy design and imposing size, but the ELFX Mega does simple funcotinality very well.
As we have mentioned, the Mega is a textbook intermediate vape kit ideal for those with more than basic experience, but lacking the confidence to try an advanced, fully customisable kit.
The airflow slider is self-explanatory, allowing for easy inhale tailoring between MTL and RDTL vaping.
The power adjusts automatically according to your chosen pod, but can be boosted using the two firing modes, ECO and TURBO.
ECO mode is the pre-set standard. In this mode, you will get slightly less vapour and flavour, but will extend battery life. Click the power button once, and you will activate TURBO mode, which utilises the full capability of the dual-mesh coil, boosting flavour and vapour at the cost of battery life.
To lock the screen altogether and prevent firing, the same power button can be clicked 5 times.
The one area the ELFX Mega isn't the easiest is refilling the pods. Their design isn't the best, as the filling port is obstructed internally by the large airflow channel. This means it can be a bit of a faff to fill up.
Setting Up: How To Use ELFX Mega Vape Pods
Right out of the box, you will receive a 0.6ohm refillable ELFX Mega vape pod.
All ELFX Mega vape pods have built-in coils and feature Elf Bar's patented QUAC Dura dual-mesh technology.
In a nutshell, QUAC Dura mesh can:
- Heat more evenly and efficiently thanks to a dual-mesh design.
- Enhance flavour due to the fine weave of the mesh, which covers more of the wick's surface.
- Deliver consistent flavour even after the coil has been in use for some time thanks to more even heat distribution.
- Extend coil lifespan by reducing hot spots and dry hits.
To get started with the ELFX Mega, you'll need to set up a fresh ELFX Mega pod according to the following steps:
- Remove the pod from your ELFX Mega battery (if pre-installed) and remove the silicone bung from the mouthpiece and the safety tab from the contact point (see image).
- Carefully open the side-fill silicone bung to expose the filling port.
- Pop the top of your e-liquid bottle into the filling port, angling the pod so the port is the highest point, with the bottle at a 45-degree angle to prevent it spilling out.
- Gently squeeze the bottle to fill the ELFX Mega pod, taking care not to overfill.
- Put the filling bung back in place to reseal the pod.
- Put the pod back into your battery, allow it to absorb for a minute or two, and away you go.
Take Care:
While testing the ELFX Mega, we quickly realised that the design of the pod makes it a little trickier than most to refill. This is because Elf Bar have used an old industry trick to make these pods comply with UK laws.
These pods, outside of the UK and EU, are intended to be just as "mega" as the battery - holding around 10ml of e-liquid. Rather than designing a new pod that complies with the 2ml e-liquid limit under UK TPD regulations, Elf have simply stuffed a massive silicone bung into the 10ml pod, reducing it's max fill level to 2ml.
The combination of this silicone bung, and the massive airflow channel inside the pod, makes it very easy for e-liquid to backfill and spill out if you squeeze the bottle any harder than a drip-feed.
This isn't the biggest problem in the world, but it is a notable con worth bearing in mind if you want a more dependably mess-free pod kit.

The Best E-Liquids To Use With The ELFX Mega
The ELFX Mega vape kit has the potential to support freebase and nic salt 50-50 style e-liquids. Ultimately though, with only sub-ohm coils available, the Mega is a nic salt-first device. Depending on the pod option you use, you can align the experience more towards freebase vape juice, but only slightly.
Freebase 50/50 e-liquid works best with:
- 0.8ohm ELFX Mega Pod.
50/50 nic salt e-liquid works best with:
- 0.6ohm ELFX Mega Pod
- 0.8ohm ELFX Mega Pod.
We gave the ELFX Mega a thorough testing, trying out different e-liquids with both pod variants to test out their performance - this is what we based the recommended pairings above on.
While the 0.8ohm option can support freebase vape juice like our Original £1 range, we recommend using it in Eco mode only, and even then the sub-ohm power of the coil might make freebase vape juice a little harsh, especially at 12mg or 18mg.
No matter which pod option you choose, the ELFX Mega uphold Elf Bar's nic salt vaping heritage, delivering excellent flavour, especially when in TURBO mode. The QUAC technology does a lot to enhance flavour, which is why this coil tech secured the ELFX Pro's coils a place in our "best coils for flavour" showcase.
Navigating The ELFX Mega's Menu
Thanks to it's beginner/intermediate level accessibility, the Mega doesn't really have a complex menu. Instead, you simply switch between the two power modes with one click of the function button.
Your chosen power mode will be displayed on the OLED screen:
- Eco mode is shown in white text, with a half-coil symbol denoting it's reduced power delivery and reduced intensity.
- TURBO mode is shown in orange text, with a full-coil symbol showing you it will fire at the full 32-watt power output maximising flavour and vapour.
The only other "menu" function available is a lock-screen. When the power button is clicked 5 times quickly, the screen will be mostly black with a tiny padlock symbol shown to remind you it is locked. Clicking 5 times again will unlock the device again and allow it to fire.
The whole kit is inhale-activated only, so the power button only exists to navigate the above functions.
ELFX Mega Battery Life & Charging
With UK laws restricting the once mega-sized pod capacity, the ELFX Mega's battery is the standout USP of the device and the main feature justifying it's name.
The Mega has a huge 2800mAh battery, the biggest of any pod kit we have seen on the market.
When in ECO mode, this battery size more than justifies the 19.99 price tag of the device. During testing in this mode, the battery lasted me over 2 days of very regular vaping. Although the flavour delivery in this mode left a little to be desired.
When in TURBO mode however, the battery drains surprisingly fast despite it's massive size. I found during use that one puff in TURBO equated to about 1% of battery depletion. That means when used at full power the ELFX Mega can only deliver around 100 puffs before needing to be recharged.
It is worth noting, however, that the brilliant flavour delivery and depth you can enjoy when in TURBO mode does a lot to offset the power consumption drawback.
The kit takes about an hour to fully charge from flat, even with 2A fast-charging, due to the sheer size of the battery.
Should You Buy The ELFX Mega Vape Kit By Elf Bar?
The ELFX Mega will has plenty of appeal to vapers who prefer nic salts or have lingering brand loyalty to Elf Bar from their disposable vaping heyday.
With its functional but relatively limited features, it also makes for a great stepping stone between very basic vape kits and more advanced models. The excellent flavour delivery when in TURBO mode is also worth praising.
Coming in at £19.99, the Mega isn't the cheapest vape kit out there, but is far from the most expensive. In reality, it is the massive battery size that you are paying for above all else.
The notable drawbacks of the kit are minimal, with messy refilling and TURBO mode's rapid battery consumption being the most notable.
Whether these are a deal-breaker for you depends on what you want from the kit. If you value battery life and simplicity, using the Mega in Eco mode is sure to satisfy. If you prefer a flavour-first experience and mess-free refilling, the pod design and Turbo-mode battery consumption rate could become frustrating.
