What Is 70/30 Vape Juice? A Guide To High VG E-Liquids
When you first start vaping, understanding all the terminology associated with vaping can be quite confusing to understand. There's a lot to take on board and if you're new to vaping, it can feel daunting but the key is to research and learn everything there is to vaping, which is what these kind of blogs are all about that we publish on LiQuid!
In this blog, we are going to explore the world of 70/30 vape juice or High VG vape juice as it's commonly known. We go through why it's called what it is, what style of vaping it's more suited for and educate you on everything you need to know about high vg vape juices!
High VG Vape Juice Explained
70/30, 80/20 - it doesn't matter about the numbers, what really matters is that these vape juices are categorised as High VG.
The numbers relate to the ratio percentages of the Vegetable Glycerine (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG) that are included in the vape juice. The common ratio for freebase nicotine vape juice is balanced 50-50% which is why these vape juices are called "high vg" is because the VG content is higher than what the PG content is.
With a higher VG content, these vape juice naturally produce large clouds of vapour when it's heated by a coil from either a vape tank or vape pod and it also means a greater amount of flavour will pass over your tastebuds which is why high-VG juices are known for bold flavour delivery.
But the advantages of big clouds and big flavour does come with some mild disadvantages as well, with the most notable one being that HVG e-liquids are commonly only associated with low nicotine strengths.
We've explained more in depth about shortfill vape juices in our comprehensive guide about shortfills which you can check out after you've finished reading this guide!
Why Are High VG Vape Juices Low Nicotine Strength?
There's a few reasons as to why High VG vape juices are normally a low nicotine strength and we will go through the reasons below.
First, it's mainly down to the logistics of the e-liquid recipe itself. The nicotine we use to create our blends is suspended in a PG base, because the 70-30 recipe allows for far less PG content, we simply cannot fit in enough PG-based nicotine into the recipe alongside flavouring to achieve strengths higher than 3mg or 6mg.
Secondly, you should be able to enjoy the vape juice without it being overly harsh on your throat - because there's a lot of vapour being produced which you're inhaling, if this was coupled with a high nicotine strength like 18mg, chances are it's going to be incredibly harsh on your throat and won't provide a pleasurable vaping experience. Not to mention there's also the likelihood of it making your head spin a bit due to inhaling high nicotine content vape juice.
Secondly, High VG vape juices are designed to be used in vape devices which can ramp up the wattage settings to a higher output due to a lower ohm resistance coil being used in either the vape pod or vape tank. This is so that the coil can be heated to optimal temperatures to be able to turn the thicker e-liquid into vapour for you to inhale.
And we know for sure that vaping something like an 18mg nicotine strength at 40-50 watts of power will do more than make your head spin!

Why Are Shortfills Sold As Nicotine Free?
The reason that larger shortfill bottles come as nicotine free is to adhere to the TPD legislations that were introduced to the UK in 2016.
The regulations state that any vape juice that contains nicotine must not be sold in bottles that exceed 10ml in size.
Therefore shortfills are sold as nicotine free and you simply add nicotine shots to them yourself to reach your desired nicotine strength.
Is Using 70/30 Vape Juice A Cheaper Way To Vape?
Some believe that using 70/30 vape juice may indeed be a cheaper way to vape, whilst others argue the case that it isn't.
One side of the argument for it not being cheaper is that you have to use a device that can run at a higher wattage, therefore it's heating your vape juice up faster to turn into vapour and you may find that you're topping up your vape tank or vape pod more often, which results in the vape juice in your bottle depleting faster.
The other side is that by buying shortfills, you are in fact saving money in the long run as you're getting more vape juice for your money than if you were to buy 10ml bottles.
For example, buying our 50ml shortfill vape juice with one free nicotine shot is only £4, and for that you get 60ml of vape juice once the nicotine shot is added in. Or 70ml should you want to add in 2 nicotine shots. If you were to spend £4 on 10ml bottles, you'd only end up with 40ml of vape juice for the same money.
And with our 100ml shortfill range, you end up with 120ml of vape juice after nic shots are added for £10. You'd spend £12 on 10ml bottles to get the same amount of vape juice.
Whilst the savings are not life changing amounts, it's still something and as the saying goes...every little helps!
What Vape Kit Is Best To Use For High VG Vape Juice?
We'll round off this guide to High VG vape juice by looking at what the best vape kit to use would be so that you'll get the most flavour from your vape juice as well as producing some serious vape clouds as well!
As we've spoken about in this guide, you'll want a device that can run at a higher wattage so that the coil can heat up to turn your vape juice to vapour properly for you to enjoy. To achieve this, you'll want to get a vape kit that has variable wattage that you can adjust yourself to set to your desired wattage range, or get a vape kit that has the smart technology to automatically set the wattage output based on the coil that is inside the pod you're using.
Choosing the right coil ohm resistance is also a crucial part of the process, and you'll want to aim for a coil that has a 0.6ohm resistance or lower. These are classed as "Sub-Ohm" coils, and also relates to the term "Sub Ohm Vaping" which HVG vape juice is most commonly associated with. We have a comprehensive guide all about vape kits which has been written by our resident vaping expert which you can check out to learn everything you need to know!
