How Long Does a Vape Pod Last and How to Make It Last Longer

Vaping pods, on average, will last a user 7-14 days, but can last longer depending on your device and its selected settings. Pod vapes have become the mainstream option compared to open tank vapes now, particularly due to their efficiency and ease of use. Nonetheless, while efficient, there are still ways to utilise your pods to the maximum.

The reason pods stop working or start giving drier hits is due to a burned-out coil. Many variables can make your coils burn out faster, so it's best to be aware of the causes so you can get the most out of them. In this blog, we will explain how long vape pods last, why they last this long and how to ensure they work for longer periods of time.

Understanding Pods

What is a Vape Pod?

A vape pod is a multi-functional cartridge that makes up a vape device. A pod contains the mouthpiece, the vessel for storing the e-liquid, and the coil, which is most usually attached to the pod itself. Once your coil runs out (if it's integrated into the pod itself,) you can throw the whole pod away and simply click a new pod into your device efficiently.

If you're using a pod with a coil that can be separated and replaced from the device, you may instead need to simply swap out coils, rather than the whole pod.

How Long Does a Vape Pod Last?

This depends on how you use the pod, though most pods will last around 7-14 days on average. People who vape more will naturally get through pods faster, though if you exercise good practices such as tuning power settings and storing your vapes properly, you’ll make your pods last longer.

This also depends on other factors such as the properties of your e-liquid and how you use and store your vape, which we will go into further below.

Factors That Affect Pod Lifespan Explained

The main factors that will affect your pod’s lifespan include:

  • How often you vape
  • Types of e-liquid
  • E-liquid flavour type
  • Power settings
  • Pod and kit storage

Although factors such as matching your e-liquid type and storing your kit correctly are essential, we suggest using discretion when it comes to factors like flavouring, power settings, and how often you vape. Although higher power settings can go through coils faster, you may personally prefer to up your power settings, or use high-VG e-liquid, which requires higher settings.

How to Extend Your Pod LIfespan

How Much You Vape

Frequent use will naturally wear out anything, but it’s particularly important to vape in moderation. If you find you’re excessively vaping due to cravings not being adequately subdued, you may want to up your nicotine concentration slightly. This will mean you’ll need fewer hits to satisfy cravings.

Using the Right E-Liquid for Your Pod

Using the wrong e-liquid can make your coil work much harder than necessary, causing it to naturally burn itself out or give the user drier hits. Matching the correct e-liquid with your pod is important. Ensure you use a sub-ohm pod for nicotine salts or high-VG e-liquid, and pods above 1.0ohms resistance for freebase e-liquid.

E-Liquid Flavour Type

Sweeteners can make an impact on how fast your coil burns out as they require more heat to vaporise properly. Some brands also tend to use more sweeteners in their e-liquid, meaning some are more prone to burning your coil out faster than others. Sweeter flavours such as our dessert range can fall victim to this, though as we're aware of this, we work to ensure they're not as prone to it.

Vape Kit Power Settings

Depending on your kit, it will automatically adjust to the inserted pod or work based on an adjustable valve or selected setting to work at a given power level. Naturally, higher wattage and more power equates to stronger flavour, but will wear out your battery and coil much faster compared to eco-modes. Ensure your device is set to the correct wattage for your e-liquid.

Vape Pod Storage

This applies equally to e-liquid, but ensure your tank stays in a cool, dry place. Keep away from direct light and windows, otherwise you’ll risk much faster steeping and liquid tasting off.

Why Pods With Mesh Coils Last Longer

Mesh coils have a wider surface area and can heat up more efficiently, lasting longer than standard coiled wires. Despite having a wider surface area, it’s not demanding of power, and works to benefit both the vaper's experience in flavour and heat distribution, whilst lasting longer.

Summary: Top Tips For Making Your Pod Last Longer

Although coils will inevitably burn out eventually, you can extend their lifespan by choosing your kit and settings appropriately. Below is a summary of the best practices to ensure your vape pods remain healthy over time.

  • Try to vape less if possible, consider vaping less at a slightly higher nicotine concentration if cravings are not being met
  • If your choice of e-liquid is applicable to your pod - freebase should be used with pods rated above 1.0ohms and nic salts/HVG should be used with sub-ohm vaping.
  • Keep in mind that e-liquid with more sweeteners, or from some brands, can burn out coils faster than other e-liquids
  • Experiment with power settings to find the best middle-ground between your vaping preference and power consumption
  • Always store your vape device and pods in a cool, dry place away from sunlight where possible
